The Proposed Academy

Thank you for taking the time to browse this website and find out more about the proposal to replace Berry Hill Community High School and St Peter's Church of England (Aided) High School with the proposed St Peter's Academy.

The Academy will be sponsored by the Diocese of Lichfield's Board of Education and Woodard Schools and will be designated as a Church of England Academy. As joint sponsors, we believe that the strength of our partnership will bring together a rich and diverse history of expertise in providing high quality, holistic education that is child-centred, value rich and faith-based.

The Academy would open in September 2011, moving into new buildings by September 2013. Stoke-on-Trent City Council has completed the statutory consultation on the closure of Berry Hill and St Peter's High Schools. It is planned to replace them with a new 11-16 Academy as part of the Local Authority's plans to transform secondary education in the City.

At the heart of the Council's vision for secondary education are five key principles:

  • placing the learner at the core;
  • placing the school at the heart of the community;
  • supporting high quality leadership and staff development;
  • creating an environment for learning;
  • developing a City-wide dimension.

As Sponsors, we are committed to these principles and will offer the leadership and ethos which will provide your Academy with new energy and direction in raising education achievement for your community.

It will be a unique opportunity for students to benefit from our passion and commitment to excellence in all that the Academy does, as well as from 21st century facilities. We want your views on the proposed St Peter's Academy. These are important to us and will help to shape what happens. This website outlines what is being proposed and includes details about our Open Events, where you can find out more about the proposal and ask questions. It also gives you details about how you can contact us with your views and/or ask questions about the Academy plans. We look forward to hearing from you and meeting you soon.
